Be a Survivor
by Jiri Fischer
Being part of life and to be able to experience its unpredictability is a privilege. Even though it can seem a bit harsh at times, there is absolute beauty in overcoming adversity--we get a chance to enjoy the most magnificent gift we have ever received, Life.
We all have to survive various things in our lives. What we have to survive is different for everyone. We may be presented with similar challenges that appear to be virtually the same, but in the end are entirely different. We are all unique and therefore the obstacles on our path of Life are unique.
Our lives are affected by everything all of the time. Our past created our present and the present influences the future. The place, the time, the weather, the people…everything involved makes every situation exceptional. To be a survivor, we don’t even have to be ill or have overcome a life-threatening condition. We all have to be survivors every day; however, some people are handed this roll more often than others. These people lead very healthy, happy lives.
Every one of us from time to time gets presented with a situation in which we feel uncomfortable. During some of the worst situations, when we are really digging in with our will to follow through, we start having thoughts about “Giving Up”. This is not unusual. At this time we are really tested by life, and we may not want to continue. Some of us break at this point. We stop. We Give Up. We lose Hope. However, once we do, our lives will never be the same. Yet, after we give up for the first time, we can learn from it and be stronger because of it and never do it again. But we have to make sure “Giving Up” doesn’t become a habit. When our life is truly threatened by declining health or even, unexpectedly, by survival, we can not afford the habit of “Giving Up”. We wouldn’t make it. This time we can not give up. We have to push through and keep finding ways which keep us going, keep us motivated, and Keep us Alive.
Breaking the habit of “Giving Up” could be the toughest challenge in overcoming a disease. Keeping a Healthy Hope is essential. We simply can not give up on life. Because we are all part of life, when we quit on Life, we quit on ourselves and ultimately quit on others.
Survivors are people who are put through tough situations; although they are confronted by adversity, they learn from the experience, appreciate it and use it to become better individuals who lead fuller lives because of it.
Losing family, a loved one, a relationship, a house, a job, or having addictions are some of the many obstacles people have to overcome to Survive. These affect our lives, but are not an immediate threat to our existence. They only become a real threat once we give up.
When we become Survivors in our daily lives, we have a better chance to become whole.
A true Survivor is a person who takes what at first seems a negative experience and turns it into a positive influence and shares it with others. By allowing others to help during times that defy us, we are saying: “I am strong enough to admit my weakness, I am vulnerable and I need you now”.
Every day we have to be Survivors and we can not give up because we all are in the “Circle of Life”. We rely on others and we will not survive alone.
Survivors always have a Healthy Hope. Survivors have Passion for Life…….
If You are a Survivor… please share your experience so we all can benefit from it Share Your Passion
If You are not…..try to become one. Everyone is on a different path. When You reach your destination, please, share your experience with others
